While they Dolphins haven’t made a big splash yet in free agency, they haven’t been sitting idly by either.
The Dolphins have brought back possibly the greatest defensive player in franchise history in Jason Taylor. This is Taylor’s third stint with the team (he spent time in Washington and with the Jets in between). The ‘Phins will likely use Taylor in strictly pass-rushing situations and hope he can draw some attention away from the beastly Cameron Wake.
Miami has also signed former Cowboy offensive lineman Marc Colombo. This, coupled with the incumbent starter at right tackle Vernon Carey being excused from the scrimmage on Monday night, could spell a changing of the guard (no pun intended) along the Dolphin offensive line.
“Dolphans” should keep an eye on the Denver QB situation come this Thursday. That is the day when teams need to be under the salary cap, and many have speculated that Denver could still possibly release QB Kyle Orton.
The Dolphins tried to acquire Orton last week but ultimately backed out because Denver was asking too much. Could the Dolphins have called Denver’s bluff and get Orton for free if he is released? Time will tell.
