Miami Dolphins Roster: Initial 53 Man Team (September 1st)

September 1st, 2012
The deadline has come and gone for the Dolphins to be at the mandated 53 player limit but it’s only the beginning for GM Jeff Ireland as he still has several holes to fill. Here is the 53 man roster as it stands right now before waiver claims begin taking place on Saturday 9/1.
MDD Staff Writer: Chad Pullen
Quarterbacks (4) Ryan Tannehill, David Garrard, Matt Moore, Pat Devlin
Running Backs (5) Reggie Bush, Daniel Thomas, Lamar Miller, Steve Slaton, Marcus Thigpen
Wide Receivers (5) Davone Bess, Brian Hartline, Legedu Naanee, Marlon Moore, Rishard Mathews
Fullbacks (1) Jorvorskie Lane
Tight Ends (4) Anthony Fasano, Charles Clay, Michael Egnew, Jeron Mastrud
Offensive Tackle (3) Jake Long, Jonathan Martin, Will Yeatman
Offensive Guard (4) Richie Incognito, John Jerry, Artis Hicks, Nate Garner
Offensive Center (2) Mike Pouncey, Josh Samuda
Defensive Tackle (4) Paul Soliai, Randy Starks, Tony McDaniel, Kheeston Randall
Defensive End (4) Cameron Wake, Jared Odrick, Olivier Vernon, Derrick Shelby
Inside Linebacker (2) Karlos Dansby, Austin Spitler
Outside Linebacker (5) Kevin Burnett, Koa Misi, Jason Trusnik, Josh Kaddu, Jonathan Freeny
Cornerback (3) Sean Smith, Richard Marhsall, Nolan Carroll
Safety (4) Reshad Jones, Chris Clemons, Jimmy Wilson, Tyrone Culver
Kicker: Dan Carpenter
Punter: Brandon Fields
Long Snapper: John Denney
It’s more than obvious that the Dolphins will bring in one and more than likely two corners unless they feel that Jimmy Wilson could be a fifth man if needed. It’s possible that Freeny could be cut in that instance, or if Matt Moore is traded for a draft pick, a corner could be brought in.
Wide Receiver is also an area of need with Mathews being a possible move to the practice squad if a more veteran receiver can be brought in somehow. Another way to add a receiver would be to keep Mathews active and move one of the QB’s, either Garrard or Moore and go with six receivers to try and add some depth to the unit if any of them struggle or are injured.
