Should Miami Dolphins Take a Wide Receiver With a High Pick in 2014 NFL Draft?

Monday, April 21st, 2014

MDD Assistant Editor: Garrett Baker

The short answer to the question posed by the headline is yes. The Miami Dolphins have a number of holes they need to fill on their roster with their top picks in the 2014 NFL draft, with the offensive line being the predominant need.

But as I continue pouring over scouting reports, watching film, and working on my own mocks and other articles, I cannot get past how good this draft’s wide receiver draft class is, and how the Dolphins’ receiving corps isn’t as solid as it looked this time last season.

Dolphins add RB Knowshon Moreno

The Miami Dolphins are synonymous with the name Marino.  Now, they will hope to thrive with a “Moreno” of the same name.  Knowshon Moreno has signed a one year deal worth a reported three million dollars with the Dolphins after spending his first five years with the Denver Broncos.   Moreno was the #12 pick in the first-round of the 2009 draft by the Broncos and finished last season with just under 1,600 yards and 13 touchdowns on 301 touches.  He will be 27 when the season begins and figures to split time with Lamar Miller in the role that Daniel Thomas held last year.  Thomas may become a cap casualty as Miami also has last year’s fifth-round pick Mike Gillislee on the roster and very few teams need or carry four running backs.   (more…)

Dolphins Roster Moves Before Free Agency Begins

Monday, March 10th, 2014

MDD Assistant Editor:  Chad Pullen

With the start of Free Agency less than 24 hours away, the Dolphins got off to an early start by signing veteran free agent, Louis Delmas who was cut by the Detroit Lions last month.  The Dolphins also cut CB Dmitri Patterson who was oft injured during his tenure in Miami.  The moves saves Miami around five million dollars, which helped them with Delmas, who they’ve signed to a one year, 3.5 million dollar deal.    (more…)
