How to Shape the Roster From Here

With news of TE Charles Clay having now received a very large contract offer from the Buffalo Bills, the Dolphins are now faced with where they go from here if they choose to let Clay walk.  When WR Mike Wallace was traded to the Minnesota Vikings along with a seventh-round pick for a fifth-round pick and substantial cap savings, it was assumed that the Dolphins planned to extend Clay long term and reshape the offense around QB Ryan Tannehill by using a lot of two tight end sets featuring Clay and the newly signed Jordan Cameron.  With that now in limbo, and the likely resolution being that Clay becomes property of the Bills in four days, where will the Dolphins go from there?   (more…)

New Year Brings Flurry of Activity in Miami

After a league shifting signing of Ndamukong Suh, the Dolphins have not since rested on their laurels, as they have continued to tear down, and rebuild the roster all in one.  TE Jordan Cameron was introduced yesterday with a two-year contract, and early this morning the Dolphins struck again, trading LB Dannell Ellerbe and their 2015 third round draft pick to the Saints for third year WR Kenny Stills.  Hours later, the Dolphins have dealt WR Mike Wallace and their 1025 seventh round pick to the Minnesota Vikings for their 2015 fifth round selection.  And while we speak, they are currently working on a deal to extend TE Charles Clay’s tenure in Miami.   (more…)

Dolphins Sign DT Ndamukong Suh

The Miami Dolphins have started off 2015 Free Agency with a very large bang, signing the number one free agent on the market, Defensive Tackle Ndamukong Suh to a six year, 114 million dollar contract with 60 million guaranteed.  This marks the third year in a row the Dolphins have landed a big fish to open free agency, in 2013 they signed Wide Receiver Mike Wallace to a 5 year, 65 million dollar deal, and in 2014 they signed Offensive Tackle Branden Albert to a 5 year, 46 million dollar deal.   (more…)

General Manager Dennis Hickey clearly had a game plan when he went into the 2014 NFL Draft: get high-character players at positions of need who can come in and compete right away.

With five team captains and six small schoolers out of the Dolphins’ eight potential draft picks, Hickey was certainly successful in many ways. He also managed to make three good trades while adding a fifth-round pick and getting some good value on a few picks as well. (more…)
