The search for offensive line help continues in Miami now that the draft portion of the off season is finished.  After selecting Dallas Thomas in the third round, Miami still wishes to upgrade the unit by adding a free agent (or possibly two) in what now can easily be considered the weakest unit on the roster. Full Recap of the Miami Dolphins’ 2013 NFL Draft

The Miami Dolphins had one heck of a draft this year. Finally, it seems like they are really building for success in the upcoming season and beyond. Their plan is well-laid out, and they have followed it perfectly through free agency and the draft.

They had a few objectives in this draft; they needed to improve their pass rush, add cornerbacks, and provide more protection for Ryan Tannehill. They did all three of those things, and then made a few extremely shrewd picks which just bolster this impressive 2013 draft class for Miami.

With Their Final Pick in the Draft, Miami Selects:

With their ninth and final pick of the 2013 NFL Draft, the Dolphins take Don Jones a S/CB hybrid out of Arkansas State.  Jones is exactly the Ireland type, 5-11 190 pounds with 4.3 speed.  He’s similar to what Ireland got in Jimmy Wilson another seventh round pick in 2011.  Read the rest of this entry »


Miami’s Round 5 Wrap Up

With yet another round where the Dolphins have two selections, the Dolphins used their first pick in the round #164 to select Mike Gillislee, RB out of Florida.  He should be able to make the roster as the third back behind Lamar Miller and Daniel Thomas.  Gillislee is 5-11, 205 lbs and goes right around where he was expected.  It also shows the Dolphins are starting to grab more local talent out of the state of Florida selecting their second player from the state for the second year in a row.  Gillislee is a multi purpose back, he can run, catch, block, he should fill whatever need Miami has out of a third RB.  He ran for over 1,100 yards and 10 TD’s in the SEC so he may be a guy that could eventually take over for Daniel Thomas as the #2 back.   Read the rest of this entry »
